This game was played by Norman Littlewood, who used to play board one for Batemoor and Jordanthorpe Community Chess Club, which later metamorphosed into Woodseats Chess Club. It’s from Round eight of the Hastings International Chess Tournament of 1964. Norman had 4.5 points at the time compared with former World Champion Mikhail Tal who was on 5.5. Norman’s opponent in this game was Levente Lengyel who had recently become a Grandmaster. He was also leading the tournament together with Tal on 5.5 points. Norman at the time was a very successful English International (see the caption to this photo-taken from Chess Magazine).
