When members of Woodseats Chess club get together on Monday at the Red Lion on Chesterfield Road (see Find us in the top menu), they like to try out different chess openings and plot fiendish traps for their opponents in upcoming matches. Here’s an example of what might happen in an opening that seems fairly innocuous but which can pack a punch, if the defending player is not careful. The player of the white pieces in this game has been a noted exponent for sometime. Recently, however, the World Champion has followed in his footsteps:
