This was a very close match. I think I’ll write about my own game against John Mercy in a different post: it finished in a way that may be open to discussion. Shane played 1.b3, which I remember as one of his favourites because he temporarily retired from the chess arena. Andrew drew against an opponent who is becoming a very strong player. Fletcher v. Sullivan looked very complicated as did Stuart’s game. Dave played excellently against Gerry Fletcher. Brendan was probably unlucky to come up against a formidable correspondence player (Alan Sutton). I’m guessing the opening was a Scotch (!?) Alan’s been studying the ins and outs of that for years. Mark Allison lost a very complicated game.
