No league matches scheduled tonight for any of our teams; so casual chess (with a sprinkling of light hearted banter), was the name of the game.
We’re almost at the end of the S&DCA summer league (local clubs playing each other). While the league is on going, the format of club nights will vary; if one of our teams has a home match, we have serious league chess upstairs, and casual chess downstairs in the bar area. If there is no match, we’re all upstairs, for causal chess.
Once a month, when there is no match going on, we try to run some kind of special event; mostly, these have been mini tournaments, usually Blitz, but we’ve also had presentations, and plan to deliver a range of chess workshops.
Tonight, we had a beginners mini-workshop, run by Danny, on the subject of end games.
We plan to have more mini tournaments and workshops in future (to help improve your game); hopefully, at least one per month. If there’s anything in particular you’d like to see, please let us know, we value your feedback.
We have a monthly newsletter, where we announce upcoming special events (as well as other stuff), so if you’re attending at the club, and would like to receive the newsletter, get in touch, and we’ll add you to the mailing list.
We also have a super-secret WhatsApp group, open to all members who attend club nights. If you’d like to join, ask at the club, and we’ll add you to the group.
If you’re interesting in coming along to check us out, we’re a friendly club and welcome players of all levels. We meet every Monday evening, from 7:30pm, at the Abbey pub, on Chesterfield road. Click on the link below for more details:
